• Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech): Admission to B.Tech programs at IIT Dhanbad is through JEE Advanced, which is a national-level entrance exam conducted by one of the IITs.

Postgraduate Programs:

• Master of Technology (M.Tech): Admission to M.Tech programs at IIT Dhanbad is through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), which is a national-level exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
• Master of Science (M.Sc): Admission to M.Sc programs at IIT Dhanbad is through the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM), which is a national-level entrance exam conducted by one of the IITs.
• Master of Business Administration (MBA): Admission to MBA programs at IIT Dhanbad is through the Common Admission Test (CAT), which is a national-level exam conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

Doctoral Programs:

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad total campus size is around 444.98 acres, and with its main campus of size approximately 218 acres located in Sardar Patel Nagar of Dhanbad and 226.98 acres of upcoming campus in Nirsa, Dhanbad. The institute has around 8101 students with 3732 undergraduate studentes, 1951 postgraduate students, and 2418 doctoral students.

1. Hostel: The institute has 11 hostels which are all named around some precious stones like Diamond, Sapphire, Amber, Ruby, Opal, Jasper etc. Some of these hostels are as old as 94 years, and have capacities ranging from 400 to 2200 students. Four of them are for girls and remaining Seven for boys, both include one hostel each for international students.

2. Computer Center: The institute has a state-of-the-art computer center with the latest hardware and software to support the academic and research activities of the students and faculty.

3. Library: The Central Library of IIT Dhanbad is one of the largest technical libraries in the country, with over 4,00,000 books, journals, and digital resources.

4. Laboratories: The institute has well-equipped laboratories with the latest technologies and equipment in various fields such as mining engineering, petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, computer science, and more.

5. Sports Facilities: The institute has a sprawling sports complex with facilities for various indoor and outdoor sports such as cricket, football, basketball, badminton, tennis, and more.

Ranking 

In India, among engineering colleges, it ranked 10 by Outlook India in 2020.It was ranked 10 among

engineering colleges by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2023 in Engineering category and ranks 26 in the Overall category.The institute was ranked 29th in NIRF for its management course floated by the Department of Management Studies in 2020.
