Navratri is a Hindu festival celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion for nine nights, during which devotees often observe fasting and follow a specific diet. While the exact rules and food restrictions can vary by region and personal preference, here are some common recipes that are typically enjoyed during Navratri:

  1. Sabudana Khichdi:

    • Ingredients:
      • Sabudana (tapioca pearls)
      • Peanuts
      • Potatoes
      • Green chilies
      • Cumin seeds
      • Ghee (clarified butter)
      • Rock salt
    • Method:
      • Soak the sabudana in water for a few hours, then drain and use.
      • In a pan, heat ghee, add cumin seeds, peanuts, and green chilies.
      • Add boiled and diced potatoes and the soaked sabudana.
      • Season with rock salt and stir-fry until cooked.
  2. Kuttu Ka Dosa:

    • Ingredients:
      • Buckwheat flour (kuttu ka atta)
      • Water
      • Rock salt
      • Grated potatoes (optional)
    • Method:
      • Mix buckwheat flour and water to make a thin batter.
      • Add rock salt and grated potatoes if desired.
      • Heat a non-stick pan and pour a ladle of batter to make thin dosas. Cook on both sides.
  3. Singhare Ke Atte Ka Samosa:

    • Ingredients:
      • Water chestnut flour (singhare ka atta)
      • Boiled and mashed potatoes
      • Green chilies
      • Rock salt
      • Ghee or oil for frying
    • Method:
      • Mix water chestnut flour, mashed potatoes, chopped green chilies, and rock salt to make a dough.
      • Roll out small circles of dough and stuff with potato mixture.
      • Fold into a triangular shape and deep fry in ghee or oil.
  4. Fruit Chaat:

    • Ingredients:
      • Assorted fruits (like apples, bananas, oranges)
      • Sendha namak (rock salt)
      • Black pepper
      • Lemon juice
    • Method:
      • Chop the fruits into bite-sized pieces.
      • Sprinkle with rock salt, black pepper, and a dash of lemon juice. Toss and serve.
  5. Makhana (Fox Nuts) Snack:

    • Ingredients:
      • Makhana (fox nuts)
      • Ghee
      • Roasted cumin powder
      • Rock salt
    • Method:
      • Heat ghee in a pan and roast makhana until they become crispy.
      • Season with roasted cumin powder and rock salt.
  6. Makhana Kheer (Dessert):

    • Ingredients:
      • Makhana
      • Milk
      • Sugar or sugar substitute
      • Cardamom powder
      • Saffron strands (optional)
    • Method:
      1. Dry roast the Makhana until they turn crispy.
      2. Crush them coarsely.
      3. Heat milk and add the roasted Makhana.
      4. Cook until the Makhana becomes soft and the milk thickens.
      5. Add sugar (or sugar substitute), cardamom powder, and saffron strands.
      6. Stir well and serve warm or chilled.

    7. Makhana Raita:

    • Ingredients:
      • Makhana
      • Yogurt
      • Roasted cumin powder
      • Sendha namak (rock salt)
      • Mint leaves
    • Method:
      1. Roast the Makhana until they become crispy.
      2. Crush or break them into smaller pieces.
      3. Mix them into yogurt and add roasted cumin powder, sendha namak, and chopped mint leaves.
      4. Serve as a cooling and refreshing side dish.
