Ingredients for Aloo Tikki:

  • 1/4 cup boiled and mashed green peas (optional)
  • 1-2 finely chopped green chilies (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (optional, for extra spice)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for shallow frying

Ingredients for Chaat Toppings:

  • Tamarind chutney (sweet and tangy)
  • Green chutney (mint and coriander chutney)
  • Plain yogurt (whisked and lightly sweetened)
  • Finely chopped onions and tomatoes
  • Chopped green chilies (optional)
  • Chaat masala
  • Roasted cumin powder
  • Sev (crispy gram flour noodles)
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, bread crumbs or roasted gram flour, mashed green peas (if using), green chilies, ginger paste, chaat masala, red chili powder (if using), cumin powder, and salt. Mix well to form a uniform mixture.

  2. Divide the mixture into equal-sized portions and shape them into round or flattened patties (tikkis).

  3. Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the tikkis until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides. Drain excess oil on paper towels.

  4. To assemble the chaat, place 2-3 hot tikkis on a plate.

  5. Top the tikkis with a spoonful of whisked yogurt, tamarind chutney, and green chutney.

  6. Sprinkle some chaat masala and roasted cumin powder on top.

  7. Add a generous amount of chopped onions, tomatoes, and green chilies.

  8. Finish off with a handful of sev for crunchiness.
