After the demand for a separate state for the tribal and Adivasi population of the region led to the formation of Jharkhand as a separate state in the year 2000, with Ranchi as its capital. It is also the district headquarter. It is also known as the land of water falls and lakes. Ranchi is located at a height of 2100 ft above sea level in the heart of Chotanagpur.
