Kedarnath is a town located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is situated in the Himalayas at an altitude of approximately 3,583 meters above sea level. Kedarnath is a famous pilgrimage site for Hindus, as it is home to the Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

Here are some of the commonly used routes to reach Kedarnath:

  1. By road: The nearest town to Kedarnath is Sonprayag, which is well-connected to major cities in North India by road. From Sonprayag, you can either take a shared taxi or hire a private taxi to reach Gaurikund, which is the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath.

  2. By train: The nearest railway station to Kedarnath is Haridwar, which is well-connected to major cities in India. From Haridwar, you can take a taxi or a bus to reach Gaurikund, which is around 225 km away.

  3. By air: The nearest airport to Kedarnath is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is around 239 km away. From the airport, you can take a taxi or a bus to reach Gaurikund.

From Gaurikund, the trek to Kedarnath is around 14 km long and is a steep climb. The trek usually takes around 6-8 hours, depending on your fitness level and pace. Alternatively, you can also take a helicopter from Phata or Guptkashi to Kedarnath, which takes around 10-15 minutes.

It is advisable to check the weather conditions and plan your trip accordingly, especially during the monsoon season (July-August), as the trekking route can be slippery and dangerous during heavy rains. It is also recommended to carry essential items such as warm clothes, raincoat, trekking shoes, and a first-aid kit.
