Smt. Droupadi Murmu (née Puti Biranchi Tudu; born 20 June 1958) is an Indian politician who is serving as the 15th and current President of India since 2022. She is the first person belonging to the tribal community and also the second woman after Pratibha Patil to hold the office. She is also the youngest person to occupy the post and the first President born in Independent India.

Smt. Droupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 in a Santhali tribal family at Uparbeda village, Mayurbhanj, Odisha. Droupadi Murmu is an Indian politician related to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who has been elected as the 15th President of India from 25 Jul 2022. She is the first woman from tribal community and the second lady after Pratibha Patil to hold the President’s office. Droupadi Murmu is a soft-spoken, humble, down-to-earth woman who made her way into the politics of Odisha with her absolute hard work. Droupadi Murmu is the country’s first President who was born in an Independent India.

Educational qualification - Smt. Droupadi Murmu completed secondary education from Girl's High School Unit-2, and graduated in B.A. from Rama Devi Women's college. After completing her education, she became involved in social and political work. 

Smt. Droupadi Murmu's political career- 

Droupadi Murmu's political career spans over two decades. She started her career as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and won the Assembly elections from the Rairangpur constituency in Odisha in 2000. She held various portfolios in the government of Jharkhand, including Minister of Women and Child Development, Minister of Transport, and Minister of Commerce and Industries.

As Minister of Women and Child Development, Murmu took several initiatives to promote the welfare of women and children in Jharkhand. She introduced several schemes to improve maternal and child health, promote women's education, and protect women from domestic violence and abuse.

As Minister of Transport, Murmu was instrumental in improving the transportation infrastructure in the state. She oversaw the construction of several new roads and bridges, which helped to connect remote and underdeveloped areas of the state with the rest of the country.

As Minister of Commerce and Industries, Murmu promoted industrial growth in the state by attracting investment and promoting entrepreneurship. She introduced several policies to encourage the establishment of new businesses and industries, particularly in the rural areas of Jharkhand.

In May 2015, Murmu was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand, becoming the first woman to hold the position. As Governor, she has been actively involved in the social and economic development of the state, particularly the welfare of tribal communities. She has advocated for their rights and welfare and has worked towards improving their standard of living.

Murmu has also been a vocal supporter of women's empowerment and has taken various initiatives to promote gender equality in the state. She has been involved in the promotion of education, health, and infrastructure development in the rural areas of Jharkhand.
